The BEST Project has been a true collaboration from the very beginning. Local, regional and national experts from many fields willingly shared knowledge and experience that led to creation of the Pilot Project in 2003. Many of the same people have remained engaged from the beginning. In particular, Anne Glendon founded the BEST Project and continues to serve as the Lead Consultant. Her vast knowledge of nonprofits, effective capacity building approaches and funders’ collaboratives led to the creation of a model that put BEST on the map both locally and nationally. Hundreds of Genesee County nonprofits have provided information and feedback about capacity building needs and approaches since the research phase of BEST including Cohort agencies. The recent changes to the BEST approach are the result of conversations and interviews with local nonprofit leaders, funders, partners and colleagues, and cumulative BEST evaluation data. Additionally, regional consultants and technical assistance providers have demonstrated a strong commitment to Flint and Genesee County; they have made multiple contributions to the project including feedback and expertise.
